Road trips are one of the best ways to travel affordably, and they can be a lot of fun for families, couples, or a way to travel on your own. Even though we no longer have a car, we did RV for several years, so we are road trip pros, haha.

Now, while road trips can be an affordable way to travel, it is also very easy to buy snacks every time you need to get gas or use the restroom. Even though they are usually somewhat cheap, the cost can really add up. That means you will probably be spending much more money than if you made your own road trip snacks in advance.

The other bad thing about the kind of road trip snacks you find in gas stations is that they are usually full or sugar, sodium, and just aren’t very healthy for you.

I have gotten much better at not grabbing candy or chips when on a road trip because I hate how it makes me feel afterwards. But, I also hate how quickly the cost of those snacks adds up.

  1. Snacks is something I need to eat more of because I slipped off the transformation bandwagon again and been munching at Hibachi buffet restaurant. I’m going to work on my cardio again so i can get back on track with eating right, so i can keep my A+ side hustle game up to par. 🙂

We are HUGE proponents of roadtrips, and since most of our road trips usually consistent of major hiking or trail-running adventures, you can bet we are perma-hungry on the drive! But I’m with you- road trip snacks available for purchase are not worth the money or the hundreds of calories of sugar and other unnecessary, artificial ingredients. We need food that will fuel us, not make us crash and burn. If I have time, I usually cook things to store in the cooler the night before (chicken strips and sweet potatoes are so easy!). But since we usually decide to leave on a whim, buying a huge pack of nuts in bulk, organic sugar-free peanut butter, and some dried fruit is a quick and affordable fix for us.

I am DEFINITELY going to have to try those quinoa fig bars… they look delicious!

  3. These look as adorable as I bet they taste! Such a cute little treat!
