We're Moving Onto A Plane!

We’ve lived in a house, then an RV, then a sailboat, and now… a plane!

Don’t get me wrong, these past years of living on a sailboat and RV have been amazing, but we’re ready for another change – it’s time for a plane!

It may sound crazy to change our minds so quickly, but part of being a blogger is that I can live and work from wherever I want. As long as I have my laptop, an internet connection, and can bring my dogs, I’m good. I can see the world from anywhere, and I’m ready to do it from a plane!

Plus, you just never know what’s going to happen in life. If you want to make a change, stop waiting around and just go for it!

You’re probably wondering how this all came about, so let me tell you what happened. When we sold our last RV, we were talking to the person who was going to deliver our RV to the next person – and he asked us what was next. He said that he knows a lot of RVers who go from RVing to living full-time on a plane. They just park their plane in a hangar when they aren’t flying. It’s pretty much like docking a boat in a marina or parking an RV in a RV lot.

We thought this was so interesting, but we honestly didn’t believe it at first.

Then, we met a few more people who told us similar stories and started getting more excited about the possibility. We met a really nice couple at the marina in St. Pete who actually lived on a plane before moving onto a sailboat. Since we’ve been in the Bahamas, we have met even more people who are living on planes.

Living on a plane has been running through our minds for a few months now and we’ve decided to go for it!

So, our sailboat Paradise is currently for sale, and we’re looking for our next home.

We’re not quite sure what kind of plane we will be buying, but it needs to be big enough to fit us and our dogs, and it would also be nice if it had enough room for when our family comes to visit. If you have any tips or advice on what kind of plane we should buy, let me know in the comments.

If you’re thinking this sounds crazy, here are the reasons for why we want to live on an airplane:

  • It would be fun.
  • We could travel even faster by plane than by boat or RV. This means we can visit even more places!
  • We’ve traveled by land and sea, now it’s time to be in the air. It’s the logical next step!
  • We learned how to sail a boat, and I’m sure it’s just as easy to learn how to fly a plane.

Just kidding.

Happy April Fools’ Day!

I’m completely kidding. We have no plans of moving onto an airplane. I wouldn’t even know the first step! And honestly, a boat is so much work that I cannot even fathom how much work it would take to live on an airplane full-time.

It does sound interesting, though!

lol, good joke. I was like, I don’t think you have a pilot’s license, and I know airplane maintenance and fees are extremely expensive, and any airplane with living space would cost 7-8 figures. good joke!

      1. Eric Burke

Great Joke! I’m a professional pilot and I was going to email you and tell you it was a very bad idea. That was great!

  2. Innovative minded “side hustle millionaires” are always up to something interesting! 🙂

  3. That was a good one, Michelle! I really did think, for a couple of moments, that the sailboat got old, way too fast! lol. But then…to each his own!
    Thanks for all you do!

    1. Francis

Oh My, its April fools day, huh!

  4. Lol you had me there for a minute 😂

    1. I fooled so many people today!

  5. I was like, so who’s getting their pilot license? LOL. But honestly, if you really wanted to I have no doubt you’d figure out a way to do it.

  6. You know, Michelle, I actually fell for that. Living on a plane will be cool, though :).

    1. I think it would be cool!

      But very expensive haha

  7. Brittany

    You TOTALLY got me! Lol

  8. I’m embarrassed by how badly this joke got me lol

    1. hahaha this is my most favorite blog post

  9. Jules @ Budgetxbabe.com

Thanks for reminding me that it’s April Fools Day.. Good one 😉

  10. Ian

    halala halala…!!! plane✈ house.Ummm lets give it a try🤔🤔🤔

  11. Joelle

Oh dang! I was about to send this to my husband because I thought he’d love the idea!! 😂. Good one!

    1. The first part is true. People actually do this!

  12. You TOTALLY got me! I was imagining you as a female James Bond, stepping off from your sailboat in Barbados, wearing the perfect little white dress, and flying off in your private jet, an inscrutable smile on your face…!!!

  13. Karla

You had me! HA! HA! Glad you’re sticking with the boat. I lived on a 31 ft. catamaran (for 3 months at most) (and have stayed in the St. Pete municipal marina) and I know how much work it is – – – but being on the water is awesome! My goal for 2019 is to figure out how to make $$$ from the boat!

  14. Quinncere

Best April Fools Day joke ever! I was like, “Wow, they are doing it big.” Haha, ya got me.

I seriously was honking why I’d never heard of plane living before😂

    1. People actually do it! That part is true.

  15. John Martelotti

Cute. I have to say I was believing you at first, then I got to the punch line

  16. Hilarious! I’m so glad I read to the end. How many people do you think read the beginning or the email teaser and think you are going to do this for real?

  17. Brenda

    Yeah, you got me!!!

  18. You got me!!! I was going to Google “Living on an airplane”

  19. Holly

Completely fell for it. Good one!!

  20. OMG you got me. I was formulating my comment and was going to say this was very bizarre and I didn’t understand how it would work or even be remotely enjoyable…. LOL.

    1. hahahahaha I am actually LOLing

  21. FOOLED! Of course it’s not even April Fools day here in New Zealand any more so I didn’t even think of it and couldn’t BELIEVE what I was reading.
Good prank, Michelle. Glad to hear that you are staying on your boat.

  22. Especially as I live in New Zealand where it’s now April 2, I was totally taken in by this and have to say you’d lost me there, like I was thinking about all the logistical issues and how you wouldn’t be able to stay in the hangar and so would need motes etc….. funny!

    1. Motels not motes!

  23. Deanna – Plan Blog Repeat

You got me! I totally fell for it. I live in an RV on the east coast part of the month and a boat the other part of the month in San Francisco, and I’m on an airplane about 200 hours a month on top of that so I feel like I live on an airplane too.

I was thinking we have so much in common. We could be real life friends. 😂 Glad to hear you’re not getting rid of the boat. The boat is my favorite but I need my RV time and love to fly… Who knows, maybe one day you will have a little airplane too.

  24. Best April Fools joke ever! I was totally fooled….

  25. You got me! I was fooled by this… I believed it. I was like, Michelle can do this kind of stuff. So cool! April fool was the last thing on my mind.

  26. Hilarious! I saw this show once about weird homes, and this guy actually did live on a plane! But it didn’t fly anymore–he parked it in a forest!

  27. Diane

Lol, before I got to ur April fool stmt, I was thinking these people are full of it! Lol. Then I read April fool! Good one!

  28. hahah I knew it was an April Fool’s joke. I remember you did one last year or the year before about being done/hate RV life and then it turned out to be a joke (at least at that moment it was a joke) lol

  29. Rinkesh

I really got fooled by this. Amazing April fool stunt. 🙂

  30. Omg I fell for it! Because YESTERDAY was April Fools in New Zealand 😂

  31. OMG you got me. 🙂 Best April Fools joke ever!
I was totally fooled….That was great!
You see: I think anything is possible with you.

    1. I fooled LOTS of people 🙂

  32. Millie

I was so sad. 🙁 “Oh NO!! I’m not going to meet Michelle!!”. Great April fool joke!

  33. Completely fell for it! As full-time RVers, we have had several friends go to boats, but none on a plane! What I love, though, is that even in this prank, you planted a little nugget of gold:

“Plus, you just never know what’s going to happen in life. If you want to make a change, stop waiting around and just go for it!”

That right there was what made me think, sure – if there’s a will, there’s a way, and I wouldn’t put it past you to figure it out! 🙂

  34. Ha! I did not get the entire article read until today (the 2nd), but I had figured out it must be an April Fool’s prank! My question is, is that even a thing? Flying all over the world sounds great but parking in hangars, not so much. Now I can’t wait until next April 1st! Thanks for the laugh!

    1. Yep, it’s real! People do it.

  35. julie

I somehow missed the fact you sold your RV and moved to living on a boat…is this true?

  36. Michelle! *rolls eyes* For something different, maybe you could sail to Richard Branson’s island and stay there for a few weeks. I think that would be amazing to meet him.

  37. I kinda look forward to your April Fools posts, so of course I came to read it. Loved it 🙂

  38. I viewed this after April Fools’ day and I got pranked, LOL! Well, I just didn’t expect this at all as I’ve always perceived you to be more of a serious writer.

That’s a good prank and thanks for making me laugh and feeling like a fool. Ha Ha! 🙂

  39. OMGosh! That was the funniest April Fool’s ever!!! And I believed it!!! Good one for sure!

  40. Seriously Michelle, for a minute there I thought you’ve gone completely mad. Haha 🙂

Just thinking about living on a plane makes me anxious.

  41. Aaron

Very clever! And, happy (belated) April Fools!

  42. Lol!! I’ve just read this almost a week after April Fool’s Day, so was pretty taken in. Was thinking how adventurous you are to live in so many unusual places. Just wondering … Did you really meet a couple in St Pete who lived on a plane?!?

    1. hahaha!

This part is true – “When we sold our last RV, we were talking to the person who was going to deliver our RV to the next person – and he asked us what was next. He said that he knows a lot of RVers who go from RVing to living full-time on a plane. They just park their plane in a hangar when they aren’t flying. It’s pretty much like docking a boat in a marina or parking an RV in a RV lot.”

This part was false – “We met a really nice couple at the marina in St. Pete who actually lived on a plane before moving onto a sailboat. Since we’ve been in the Bahamas, we have met even more people who are living on planes.”

A lot of sailors are actually pilots, but I don’t know if I met anyone there who lived on a plane at one time, haha. We did meet people there who owned planes, but I don’t know if they traveled on them full-time.

  43. Sherry

    Hi Michelle.

I’m late to the party, but I still think this is funny!!! You got me…lol.

  44. I am so glad that I held out to the end. I was thinking, Does she know how expensive fuel is? After I read the end, I wondered how many people left halfway through dreaming of being a blogger?

  45. I totally believe you until the very end when you said April fools! Good joke, you really got me.

  46. Tegan

But low key living on a plane would be pretty cool 😊

  47. Watching your career grow you are an example of ANYTHING is possible. I was intrigued and was trying to figure out how you would transition to a plane then the gotcha. I am so gullible.

    1. Haha thank you Doria! People do actually do this, but I think it takes a TON of money to make it possible. Also, a lot of work, haha.
