Spending, Life and Food Updates… 12/5/2011 and how our bathroom flooded, help!

The weekend went by way too fast! I didn’t do a ton of stuff so I kind of feel like I wasted it. I haven’t been getting a ton of sleep lately (around 3 to 4 hours a night) because of work and school so I’ve also had a constant migraine. AHHH! Just not good.  I can’t wait until my projects and finals are done with.

Update on my closet progress:  I haven’t done anything major yet. I started cleaning out my closet and hanging the abundant amount of clean pile of clothes that have been on my closet floor for forever. I’ve been looking for nice/decent bookshelves to put my shoes on, but haven’t found anything I like. I’m wanting something like what’s above. I found something at Walmart, but I’m still looking.  My goals for this week are to finish cleaning out my closet and the mess on the floor and start buying stuff.

I need to buy paint for the room that I’m converting into my closet. I think I want yellow and a light gray on the walls. And then I need around 3 bookshelves, nicer hangers, some sort of hanging rack system that the BF can install on the walls, a small couch/chair and a big mirror. I need lots of stuff, but this is all part of my Christmas list.

I also won an awesome giveaway from la vie petite for a gift certificate to Wonton Mommy. I would really recommend checking out her shop, she makes such cute stuff. It came in such cute packaging that I didn’t even want to open it. I got a brooch, flower clip, a newborn headband (for my cousin’s baby), a really cute necklace and a ring! Love it all.

And then the last two pictures are some of the things that I made last week. Stir fry steak and pasta.

Flooding toilet: Also, the toilet in our bathroom flooded and that was quite a joy. It happened right after the BF left for work, so I spent FOREVER trying to get it to stop. I still don’t know why it started flooding because no one used that bathroom since the day before. I was hearing drips and then I walked over and pretty much wanted to jump off a cliff since I knew that I had to unplunge whatever was going on in there.

And no matter what I did, nothing was working. So I eventually had to grab buckets and dump buckets full of water into the shower so that the water would stop overflowing. It completely soaked our entire bathroom and started flooding the basement. WHAT LUCK I HAVE!!!

Then all of a sudden, the toilet flushed and started working again. I’m afraid that our floor and the basement’s ceiling is going to get moldy now. Anyone have any tips with this?

How was your week/weekend?

Christmas Trees in my House

Last Updated: October 1, 2014 BY Michelle Schroeder-Gardner - 17 Comments

These are my Christmas trees in our house right now. We had to buy a fake one this year because our smaller dog in past years has been able to pretty much hop into the tree water stand and he drinks all of it until he’s sick. I bought both of these this week and got pretty good deals.  Our tree is around 8.5 or 9 feet tall (I can’t remember) and it’s so pretty!

And then the BF has been joking about just buying a Charlie Brown tree and having that be our only tree, so I bought one as a joke. We have other Christmassy things in our house but I haven’t taken a picture yet. I’ll do that soon!

And me and my friends have decided that we are going to have a fun Christmas dinner at my house and then go out afterwards, so I’m trying to think of ways to decorate for the house. Here are some of my inspirations from Pinterest:

I hope you like my tree!

And I hope you all have a great weekend. Any plans?

November Goals Update

Now that November is done (and it FLEW by!), I need to see and keep track of how I did for the month.
  1. Reassess My Budget. I found more things that I can cut (even if it’s just a little) PASS
  2. Start and Finish Homework Before it’s Due.  I actually did some homework on time, so this is a PASS
  3. Workout at least 2 times a week. I don’t even remember the last time I worked out. That’s how bad it is. FAIL
  4. Call and attempt to lower student loan interest rate. I haven’t even thought about this once, so obviously it’s a FAIL
  5. Spend no more than $500 for entertainment and groceries.  We didn’t go out a ton this month and our groceries were in line. PASS
  6. Volunteer at least two days this month. I haven’t volunteered at all. FAIL
  7. Sell My Stuff on Ebay.  My pile is still in my closet. FAIL
  8. Make a Holiday Gift Plan (and actually start buying stuff). I started buying some stuff so I would say Kind of PASS
  9. Make a new/different meal at least 3 times a week. I have done this. PASS
  10. And last but not least, FIND A PART-TIME JOB so that I can start aggressively paying off my student loans. FAIL

How did November go for you? Obviously mine didn’t go too well, so December will be busy for me.

Weekly Money Check-Up: 11/21

Here’s my weekly money check-up, courtesy of My Pretty Pennies.

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on clothes and food.
2. Today I am thankful for everything. My job, family, life, friends.
3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free thing I did last week that made me happy was hang out with the BF on Wednesday.
4. I will consider this week a success if I actually get some stuff done around the house since all I have to do is work this week since I’m on Fall Break from classes!
5. This Thanksgiving, we are going to the BF’s family’s Thanksgiving. Around 100 people go and there is tons of food!

There are a lot of things that I want for Christmas. Hopefully the BF will look at this list (I don’t think he’s ever looked at my blog for more than a second, but here’s to hoping). And yes I realize that this is too much to ask for, but these are just ideas!

What’s on your wishlist?

Food spending and our weekend

Last Updated: October 1, 2014 BY Michelle Schroeder-Gardner - 3 Comments

We did really good with spending over the weekend. We decided to have a kind of quiet weekend. On Friday night we worked out with a couple of the BF’s friends and afterwards we went out and drank (but only spent $15) and then went over to someone’s house and hung out after the bars closed (I’m assuming this is why I slept for so long the next day).

We got Mexican food the other day like I said in my other blog post and I think that’s all we spent on food this weekend. We made hamburgers last night (delicious, but not the same as how my BF makes them. Mine always turn out funny).

Our food budget has been good so far this month.  The BF said that other day that he can’t stand getting fast food anymore or going out to eat because the food doesn’t taste as good as I make. It’s either my cooking skills have greatly improved, or he wants a new expensive toy (I’m going to go with my cooking skills are getting better).

And then on Saturday we just hung out at a friends house while they had other people over also. It was fun just relaxing!

Then after that, we went to the movie store and rented Horrible Bosses and Gladiator.  Somehow I have never seen either of those movies.  They were both good! I love Jennifer Aniston, but I think the movie could’ve been a little better.

Oh yeah, and I did not start making that wreath that I was talking about the other day, I plan on starting it sometime this week (hopefully!).
