The holidays can be expensive, but they don't have to be if you are mindful of how you spend and find holiday savings. Let's save money this holiday season! The average person spends around $900 on gifts for the holiday season, according to American Research Group. That amount doesn’t even account for other holiday spending, such as travel costs, food, get togethers, decorations, and more.

Some people even go into credit card debt to spend for the holidays, but is that really worth it?

I’m going to guess not.

Putting your holiday spending on a credit card is a major problem because you will eventually have to pay off that debt.

Plus, interest and other finance charges may be added, meaning that small amount you put on your credit card will grow into a much bigger number. This can then impact your credit score, your credit history, your debt to income ratio, and more. [Read more…]

T. Rowe Price recently released the survey – Parents, Kids, & Money, which surveyed more than 1,000 parents as well as their children between the ages of 8 to 14. This survey revealed that most parents actually want to overextend their money and spending in order to get their children what they want for gifts and holiday presents. [Read more…]

Happy Holidays!Hello everyone and happy holidays!

Today will be a nice and relaxing day for my little family (me, Wes, and our two dogs). It was a rather frugal Christmas for us, and we are both happy about that.

Whatever holiday you and your wonderful families celebrate, I hope it is a great one for you. I hope you are able to take some time off and are able to enjoy this time with your family.

Thank you for being a valuable reader. Have a great day!

If you are in the United States, you are probably preparing for Thanksgiving and any related festivities. You are most likely excited for the food, seeing family members, hanging out with old friends, and more.

As everyone knows, one part of Thanksgiving is to think about all of the things you are thankful for.

I think it’s always a good idea to stop and think about the positive things in life.

This can completely change your mindset and I believe it can make your day, year, and life better. No matter how bad life may seem, you can probably step back and think of a few positive things in your life.

Below are some of the several different things in life that I am thankful for: [Read more…]

Hello everyone! I hope all of you had a great weekend and I hope it’s a great Monday for you as well. For those of you here in the United States, Happy Memorial Day!

I’m taking today off from my normal blog writing, but I’ll be back tomorrow. Today, I’m going to sit back, try to relax, and enjoy the company of those that I love the most. I’ll still fit in some work though, as I can’t get enough of that in my life – good thing I love working! 🙂

Anyway, Memorial Day isn’t just about the start of Summer and BBQ season.

I want to thank everyone who has served and is currently serving in the military. If it weren’t for all of you, I don’t know where I would be! I know I mostly talk about personal finance here at MakingSenseofCents, but please remember the true meaning of Memorial Day and take a look at the infographic below.

What are you doing today?
