The following article is sponsored by MetLife Auto & Home. All opinions are 100% my own.

Do you have home insurance?

Some of you may have even said: “No, because I rent my home.”

Whether you rent or own your home, 99.999999% of the time having home insurance is a good idea. I really can’t think of any reason for why a person shouldn’t have home insurance.

If you think it may be hard to get home insurance, think again. Savvy carriers have even begun offering homeowners insurance online!

For example, MetLife Auto & Home® now offers 100% online homeowners insurance! It is new, affordable insurance that puts renters and homeowners in control of quoting, buying, and servicing their insurance online.

Yes, you can do this all online and it makes it extremely easy to find and purchase homeowners insurance.  Purchasing homeowners insurance in this fashion is new to the industry and highly convenient for consumers. It really is the wave of the future and MetLife Auto & Home is at the helm!

You can see it for yourself on the MetLife Auto & Home MyDirect® portal at www.MyDirect.metlife.com.  Not only can prospects get quotes in short order, but customers can easily file claims using the portal.  MetLife Auto & Home seems to have thought of everything to meet customers’ needs for convenience!

More and more routine tasks are available online, so it only makes sense that homeowners insurance would be one of those.  MetLife Auto & Home has simply taken the lead to make homeowners insurance available in this highly accessible, innovative, and industry leading fashion.

Those who don’t have homeowners insurance, or who want to see what possible premiums are available (to compare and possibly save some money), should consider checking out what’s now available to consumers online, such as the new portal for online homeowners or renters insurance from MetLife Auto & Home.

There may be states where the products are not available, but you can find all that information directly from the carrier once you’re at the portal. MetLife Auto & Home has made it real simple for users.

I’m not an insurance agent nor coverage expert, but once again, this website is chock full of readily accessible and valuable information to help consumers in their decision-making. For example, you can find information about what is covered and what might not be, and the explanations are in real world relatable terms. Just remember, all coverage is provided subject to policy terms and conditions and most people will have to pay their chosen deductibles.  I believe there are four coverage options available, from a basic policy to deluxe, and MetLife Auto & Home provides enough information to help you to decide what level of coverage best fits your needs and budget.

Sure, one can get insurance from a variety of traditional brick and mortar outlets, but MetLife Auto & Home’s insurance is 100% online, available only at MyDirect.MetLife.com. Consumers can get quotes, buy policies with budget-friendly premiums, and file claims wherever, whenever, without ever having to pick up the phone.  And it’s all just waiting there 24/7!

Yes, it’s seriously all online. Customers don’t have to step a foot into an office, call anyone, and so on. It really doesn’t get any easier than that when it comes to home insurance.

Yes, homeowners need insurance.

Homeowners need home insurance.

You have a valuable and expensive asset, which is your home. Your home is most likely the most expensive thing you’ll ever purchase in your life, so you rightfully want to protect it and yourself against personal liability, which could impact assets, such as one’s house.

Yes, renters need home insurance too.

Many renters skip home insurance, which could be a huge disaster.

Read your policy carefully for specifics, but renters insurance generally protects a customer’s personal property from damage, theft, or vandalism, as well as from personal liability. One just never knows if he or she may experience a fire, if his or her home may be broken into, if he or she may unintentionally cause injury to someone on the property, and so on.

Unforeseeable events happen, such as damage or because of a fire or burst water pipe.  Renters insurance, is designed to cover the cost of important items like washers and dryers, electronics, like TVs, furniture, and jewelry, so the renter is not caught having to replace those belongings at full value out of his or her own pocket. These items can all add up significantly and quickly; so, insurance professionals often advise that having renters insurance is a good precaution to help to cover some of those costs.

One thing that many people may not realize is that a renters insurance policy could also help out with a place to live, if one’s place were made uninhabitable by a covered loss. This is a BIG reason to have renters insurance and why you may want to check out what’s conveniently available online and what could suit your needs.

I recommend reading MetLife Auto & Home’s article, Accidents Happen: 3 Scary Situations Your Landlord Won’t Cover.

Yes, the article addresses a few things that your landlord or his or her insurance policy might not cover, such as if:

  • Someone broke into your rented apartment or home.
  • Your home suffered a fire [Note: standard renters policies don’t cover flood losses either; one must purchase a separate flood insurance policy for renters as part of the National Flood Insurance Program].
  • You caused injury to someone in your home.

These are all great reasons to have renters insurance. Plus, renters insurance is usually quite affordable, so it is a no-brainer to have.

How does someone get 100% online insurance?

There are plenty of places to buy insurance, but those looking for online convenience and ease should consider using the renters and homeowners insurance portal from MetLife Auto & Home. The process is quick (it was one of the company’s goals), convenient, easy to understand, and the carrier passes on attractive cost savings to customers on a budget; but, don’t take my word, log on and find out for yourself:

  • On MyDirect.MetLife.com where, customers can hop through a quick quoting process, and MetLife Auto & Home will recommend coverage options. Alternatively, customers can customize policies based on their individual needs and what they can afford.  This in itself is a unique industry leading opportunity with respect to homeowners policies.
  • MetLife Auto & Home’s renters and homeowners insurance customers can access their policies, pay their bills, file claims, and more all from the same website.

Do your own digging around online for other online homeowners insurance opportunities, but I found MetLife Auto & Home to be unique in this space and at the head of the class in terms of customer convenience. For example, with online homeowners or renters insurance through MyDirect.MetLife.com, filing a claim only takes the below easy steps:

  1. Log on online, or call directly to file a claim.
  2. Choose to have claim payments deposited directly into a bank account.
  3. Check claim progress anytime, 24/7, to stay up-to-date with one’s home insurance needs.

Do you have home insurance? Why or why not?

This served as a good reminder for me that it may be time to shop my homowner’s insurance. I am good about shopping auto insurance when I notice rates creeping up, but I am more complacent with homeowner’s insurance.
