Because of the internet, we have modernized shopping. Going to a physical store is no longer the only option. Currently shoppers can simply go online and browse through items on a tablet or smartphone whenever they want and wherever they are. In fact, there are around 205 million online shoppers in the US alone, according to Statista–a respected online statistics, market research and business intelligence portal.
But though the way we shop has changed, one thing stays the same: we love good deals. Finding better value for our money is a challenge many of us are willing to take. To make the hunt easier, here are some suggestions you can try:
Register as a member
A lot of shops let you buy items as a guest with no need to create an account. But if you have time to do so, go ahead and start one. In an attempt to get more members, shops incentivize registration with offers like free shipping on the first order or exclusive discounts available only to members.
Sign up for the newsletter
Once you're a member, you can opt to become part of a shop's mailing list to receive a periodic newsletter. It's a great way to get news on upcoming sales, limited-time-only offers and other perks only members can enjoy.
Connect on social media
Holding contests is one proven way to go viral on social media, so many shops do that every now and then to get more likes and followers. It's for this reason that you should connect with your favorite shops on Facebook, Instagram, etc. Even if you don't win, at least you gave it a shot.
Download the app
Some shops offer mobile-only deals to encourage people to download and use their apps. Since the apps are usually free, it's probably a good idea to get them and see what deals you'll have access to once you’re in.
Browse when there's an upcoming holiday
Like physical shops, online shops also offer discounts and other good deals when a holiday is coming. An example is Patpat.com, a store that carries stylish clothes for mothers and kids. For Easter, they held a virtual Easter egg hunt in which registered members could find eggs and win $50.
Retail is a competitive industry, so a lot of shops offer price matching. This means that if you find the same item but at a lower price somewhere else, the shop would agree to sell you that item for the same price. It's much easier for you to compare prices online because you can simply pull up several sites and check.
Split the shipping cost
Some shops offer free shipping once you hit the minimum purchase target they set. So before checking out your items, ask a family member or friend if they would like to buy anything so that all of your items can go in one package.
The great thing about online coupons is that you don't need to cut them and stuff them in your wallet. Now you can have as many as you like and save them all in your mobile device.
Online shopping not only saves you time and effort, but also money–if you know how to play it right. Hopefully the tips provided here will lead you to a lot of great deals. Happy shopping!
