Civil Rights History, noteworthy landmarks, groovy jazz music, and southern cooking: it's no secret why tourists love the “Magic City” of Birmingham. With so much to see and do, you don't want to spend the bulk of your travel budget on a hotel room. For the best rates at the best Birmingham budget hotels start here.

1. La Quinta Inn Birmingham

The recently renovated La Qunita Inn Birmingham is just a 15-minute drive from downtown Birmingham. The modern rooms include a flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi, and guests can start their day with a free hot and cold breakfast. Previous guests loved the friendly service, location, and low prices.

2. Candlewood Suites Birmingham

If you plan to spend more than a few days in the city, book a room at Candlewood Suites Birmingham. Offering rooms with full kitchens, an on-site convenience store, a BBQ, and free laundry service, guests can comfortably live at this all-suite hotel for as long as they like.

3. Quality Inn and Suites Birmingham (Southeast Birmingham)

Just off Highway 280, the Quality Inn and Suites Birmingham is found in a big box shopping complex and is a 17-minute drive from downtown. After a long day of shopping or exploring downtown, relax in the indoor pool. In addition to the low room rates, guests also receive free Wi-Fi, free breakfast, and free parking.

4. Comfort Inn Airport

Get to the Comfort Inn Airport with ease by using the free airport shuttle. This hotel is mere minutes from Birmingham's major attractions. Offering rooms with a mini-fridge and microwave, an on-site pool, and free breakfast, this hotel has it all for a low price. Guests of this hotel found the staff friendly and the property clean.

5. Clarion Hotel

Well-landscaped grounds surround a sparkling outdoor pool at the budget-friendly Clarion Hotel. This property offers easy access to the airport and downtown Birmingham including nearby access to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. This amenity-rich hotel offers a cocktail lounge, a fitness center, and a free airport shuttle. Previous guests were specifically impressed with the customer service at this hotel.

6. Super 8 Homewood Birmingham

This property is a little farther from downtown Birmingham than other hotels on this list, but it gets all the basics right. Clean rooms with flat-screen TVs, modern furnishings, free breakfast, free Wi-Fi, and friendly staff. There's also a fitness center for guests who want to keep-up their exercise regimen. Travelers with pets can bring them along.

7. Extended Stay America Birmingham

This affordable hotel is ideal for travelers who like to prepare some of their own meals while away from home. Every room has a full kitchen, and laundry facilities are available on site. Guests can bring their entire family to this hotel, as pet-friendly rooms are available.

Still need some more options? There are plenty of great budget-friendly hotels in Birmingham outside the downtown area. Check for hotels along the Interstate highways and near the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport for the best room rates.
