Minibus hire is becoming a popular way for small to medium sized groups of people to get to an event. Weddings, proms, parties, even weekend breaks, minibuses are the transportation of choice. For events such as these a minibus with a driver can be a blessing. No need to have a designated driver or indeed to book a cab. You just go to your event and have fun.
In response to demand, minibus hire companies have sprung up all over the UK.
With so much choice and competition, how do you find the best minibus hire deals? These tips will show the way.
Club Together for a Better Minibus Deal
Depending on the size of your party, you should club together to get the best deal to hire a minibus. This can reduce the cost considerably as the fee is shared between the party. This is one of the beauties of using a minibus to get to an event.
If you have a designated driver, as they are forfeiting a night of alcohol consumption, you may want to make them exempt from costs. This is for you to thrash out. Either way pooling your resources to bring down the cost to each party member is recommended.
Choose a Minibus that Runs on Diesel or Gas
Most minibuses run on diesel. This gives better miles per gallon than unleaded and provides a better overall cost than unleaded, despite the cost per litre being slightly higher. If you can hire a minibus that runs on gas however, you will save again.
The chances are that minibuses running on gas will cost more. You will have to do the sums to see if a saving can be made than if you were hiring a minibus driven by diesel.
Most minibus hire deals require you to pay for the fuel. This is something to check when you approach the company.
Ask your Friends
Word of mouth recommendations are arguably the best in the world. People who used a minibus company and can vouch for their quality of service simply have to be listened to. In the first instance, ask your friends and family if they have any experience with a minibus hire company or if they know someone who has.
If they haven't, you may want to ask if they know someone who has and what their experiences were like. This gives you an opportunity to discover how much they paid, how the process works, and what the time limits are. I.e. the latest pick – up time.
Like word of mouth recommendations, online reviews can be a good way for assessing whether a minibus hire company is worth your time. If every review is beaming and has no grammatical mistakes, then this could be a sign the reviews are a little fake. That said it is not impossible that every client they had was an English teacher.
If the reviews have a few human grammatical errors, maybe a mix of good and bad reviews, at least you know they are genuine. Often a bad review can come about due to peculiar circumstances. Mixed reviews show the company is not afraid to show what their client experiences have been. This is a sign that bad reviews were probably as a result of circumstances beyond their control.
Ensure you read as many of the reviews as possible to get a balanced view of how well the minibus company performs.
If a minibus company is particularly bad it may well have been featured in the press, or a personal blog. A quick search engine search should reveal anything of this nature. From this point you can now make up your mind whether or not this is a company to consider, or to forget about.
That said, the press does like to pounce on negativity and often miss reports in that regard. Bear this in mind when you read a press report about a minibus company.
The Devil is in the Details
Once you find a minibus hire company you feel can do a good job, ensure the details are just so. You do not want to hire a company that cannot fulfil your purposes. As a general rule of thumb check the following aspects of the minibus hire deal:
- The vehicle is available on the date you need it for: A bit of a downer if it is not on your doorstep on the wedding day.
- The vehicle comes with a driver if you need one: Some minibuses can be hired without a driver so ensure if you asked for a driver one is available.
- Pick – up and departure times: This is especially important if you have hired a driver to take you from A to B. The driver may well have to leave at a certain time. This can differ from company to company with surcharges being applied should the actual departure time exceed the stated departure time.
- Damage: If you damage the minibus what is the procedure. This is especially important if you have not hired a driver.
- Cancellations: What are the terms of cancellations? Ensure you are aware of these to avoid nasty surprises. Often a cancellation a few months in advance is a full refund. A cancellation with a week to go is at best a partial refund. Check the details.
- Fuel Costs: Are you eligible for fuel costs or are these included in the price?
