Something that I need to get more into with my business is e-mail marketing. I'm sad to say that I haven't been doing the best in this area, and each day that I don't work on my e-mail list is another day lost. Many large bloggers ALWAYS seem to say that e-mail marketing is one of the first things you should set up with your new blog – and this is my biggest fail.
The longer you wait the finally set up an e-mail list, the longer it will take to build it up, so you might as well start it as soon as you can. An e-mail list is something that every business needs, and I cannot think of a single business that would not benefit from an e-mail list at least at some point.
Here is why e-mail marketing is important, and why I need to stop being lazy.
Everyone has an e-mail address.
Okay, maybe not everyone, but a lot of people do. I don't know anyone who doesn't have an e-mail address.
Not everyone is active on their Facebook, and not everyone has a Twitter. Most people check their e-mail addresses at least somewhat regularly though. E-mail can be a great way to engage with your potential customers.
The e-mail addresses are yours.
If you have your own e-mail list (and gained them a legitimate way), then these e-mail addresses are yours. Unlike with a Facebook or Twitter following, you cannot lose them.
This is a very big positive of having your own e-mail list, you can bring it with you and it can be a great asset to have.
Don't just look for numbers.
You want quality e-mail sign ups, not just inflated numbers that do not help you at all. I think this is an area that many business owners go wrong. Sometimes they are so stuck on the numbers of things that they don't think about how numbers don't always mean sales.
If someone signs up for your e-mail list, then they are probably at least somewhat interested in your product.
