Summer is a cash sucker - $480 GiveawayHey everyone! Happy Monday. I know a lot of you have tried visiting my site and it hasn’t been working. Well, everything should be up and good to go know. Sorry if I wasted anyone’s time because I know a lot of you emailed me to let me know that my site wasn’t working. There shouldn’t be any more problems, at least not for a while! Make sure to come back tomorrow for my monthly extra income update.

In the summertime, I always find that I spend much more money than usual. I’m sure I’m not alone in this. There are always so many more things to do in the summer it seems like. There are plenty of weddings, BBQs, holidays like 4th of July and so on. Summer is definitely my favorite time of the year, and I LOVE it.

There is a giveaway for $480 below, so you can ignore my post and just scroll down if you would like 🙂

Vacations

I went to St. Thomas in May (yes, I do realize that is not summer, but it is close), and that was some money spent. I’m also going to Chicago for a bachelorette party this month. In August, I am also going to New Orleans for a week, and I know for a fact that this trip will be a money sucker.

Air conditioning

Our air conditioning expense has gone up, but that’s only normal because it gets hot here.

Lawn care

We recently hired someone to take care of our lawn. We spend less than $100 per month for them to mow our lawn, which seems like a good deal to me.  I hate doing it and so does W. We will probably take over next year though. With the summertime, also comes increased water usage because all of the grass would die quickly if we didn’t water it in the heat.

Wedding

I bought my wedding dress on Saturday! I spent a little over $1,600. I know, not the most frugal, but I fell in love with it. The place I went to was awesome and it seemed like they only had the prettiest of dresses. It was hard to choose since I loved everything. I did stay under my dress budget of $2,000 and am happy with that. She also measured me and said that I should fit into the dress perfectly when my size comes in, and that I should have very minimal alteration costs, if any. WIN!

We also spent money on engagement photos, but those were well worth it to me as well. I’ll be posting those either this week or next on my blog. I did post some on my Twitter, so you can get a quick glimpse there too.

Do you tend to spend more money in the summer?

I think in the summer I tend to spend more money on eating out and other social activities. I have relaxed a but about that and while its fun, its really eating into our budget!

I don’t know a LOT about wedding dresses but I think that is considered a reasonable amount to spend. I can’t wait to see your dress!!

Hello, well this summer we cut out our week house rental at the shore, so we will be saving money this year. Any extra money I get will be going to pay for doctor or lab bills. Thanks for a great giveaway!

I don’t think you spent too much on your wedding dress. I read through some of the comments and it really is a personal choice whether or not a wedding is important or not to you. I recently got married in September 2012 and we spent $20,000 on our wedding. Yes we could have used that as a mortgage payment on our house (we already lived together/owned a house together) but it was important to us to bring both of our families together. To answer your question, I think it is easier to spend more money in the summer. You feel the impulse to travel, eat out more, and alcohol costs can go up. Nothing like a cold beer on a hot day!

$1600 is a little expensive for a dress, but not way over the top. Hope you guys have a fantastic wedding day! Can’t wait for photos.

I would put some of it in savings and use the rest to buy my son’s birthday present! He will be 7 on August 25 🙂
