Save Money over Time: Buy and Maintain Your Vehicle at a Used Car Dealership

Buying a used car is a tricky process if a person decides to look somewhere besides a car dealership. There is always the temptation to look at classified sections in newspapers, car auctions, and online used car listings. But one thing to consider is that those options have more issues than expected. In a private sale with the car’s previous owner, the guarantee of condition and history is questionable, and sometimes the owner will not allow a test drive. An online purchase for something of that value is too expensive or important to do remotely.  Car auctions are stressful “every man for themselves” affairs.

Even when the outside purchase is complete and the car is in one piece, maintenance is entirely up to the buyer.  Luckily there are states such as New Jersey that do not offer an “as is” option for used car sales.  While that means a used car might still be under warranty, something like a transmission replacement might not be covered.

A used car dealership has many things that make it a better choice for finding a car. Going to one used to mean that the cars there have been driving around for a while, but that has changed. The number of used cars sold by drivers who leased them for a little over a year has grown. Most of the time previous owners did not sell them for defects or age – they just found that selling it to a dealership gave them a bigger profit than expected. That makes for a lot of practically new factory-certified and used vehicles in their lot.

a service plan makes buying from a used car dealership very attractive. This goes beyond the regular fall/spring tune up or oil change – the greatest advantage of letting the dealership maintain the used car is that their technicians are factory-trained specialists. That means that the car will get the right treatment from the best person for the job.  Buying factory-certified parts for the vehicle at special prices also helps in choosing what dealership to go to. That way there is no worry if the part is expensive or that it is for the right model.

There many needless hurdles to jump when buying a used car from a listing or private seller. This is why going to dealerships like Beyer Ford is the better choice. They make the process easier, provide higher quality vehicles and service, and help save a lot of money through great deals.

We just bought a certified used car and that covers most of the big things up to 100,000 miles or 7 years. It gives us a little peace of mind.

That actually sounds like a decent deal. I will have to look into this in 7ish years when I will be in the market for my next car.

My husband and I actually did the same thing about a month and a half ago! Got a 2008 Nissan Rogue that had been a lease vehicle in its previous life. Less than 30,000 miles on it, and the major stuff is covered by the warranty until the end of 2015 (vehicle wasn't put into service until the beginning of 2009). WAY cheaper than buying brand new, but we still expect to get a good 10+ years out of it as long as we maintain it well.

This is actually really interesting, I didn't realize the benefits of going to a used car dealership as opposed to just buying from an individual. Thanks!

I bought my truck used from a dealership about a couple years old but likely would never have bought it from classifieds for all those reasons. If I was looking for a winter beater that I was paying a few hundred bucks for than I would certainly go looking online. Cheers Mr.CBB
