Endless list of things I want to do

There are so many things that I want to do after I graduate with my MBA. Daisy recently posted the things that she wants to do when she’s done, and I figured that I wanted to do a little daydreaming myself. Graduation isn’t too far away, August 4th! At least I think it’s that day. Maybe the day after…

After I graduate, I will have so much more time. After I was done with my undergraduate degrees, I took one semester off before I went to graduate school. It was so nice to just be able to work and not have to worry about school at the same time.

Just as an FYI if any of you don’t know, I have always worked full-time. Throughout college I worked as a retail manager – full-time, and after I graduated I started working as an financial analyst, and that’s what I still do today. A break will be nice. No homework, no classes after work, and so on.

Also, a small question. I most likely won’t be walking at the graduation ceremony. I walked for my undergrad, but I just don’t feel the need. Will I regret this decision? Just wondering how others felt.

Things I want to try and do:

  1. Sleep. I need to sleep more. I go to sleep around 1 or 2 am every night and wake up at 6 am. AH! Update: Yes, I hardly get any sleep but on the weekends I am known to sleep for 16-20 hours straight. This is a really bad habit.
  2. Take my first ever yoga class. This will surprise you most likely. I’ve never done yoga, zumba, or anything. I am extremely lazy and afraid of looking dumb. Our hotel for our Kauai trip has daily morning yoga, but I’m afraid I will look like a complete idiot. Maybe I’ll try that next week. Doing yoga on the beach just sounds lovely.
  3. Decorate. Our house is still kind of bare. We have furniture in every room, but we would like to add color to our walls and have everything match better. I still need to work on my closet also.
  4. Learn a language. I wish I could speak another language. I took French for 3 years in high school, but all I can ask for is where the bathroom is. That will be extremely helpful right?
  5. Read books. I can sadly say that I don’t read books. Ever. I can’t even tell you the last book I read. I just bought Hunger Games and my friend is letting me borrow the second, so I plan on reading both while on vacation. That’s a start right? Lets see if I actually do this…
  6. Run with my dogs everyday. I feel like a horrible dog momma.
  7. Travel more. I would like to go hiking and go to more natural places such as state parks and similar places. Big Sur, Yosemite, Yellowstone, etc.
  8. Be more active. I am not active at all. I wish I was! I want to start kickboxing classes and other fun active things.
  9. Get some kind of talent. I literally have no talent. I can’t think of anything. Some things on my list: surfing, snowboarding, good with guns, something, anything.
  10. Get my social life back. I hang out with my friends at least once every week, but I can’t wait until I can see them more. It’ll also be nice to see the boy more also. Even though we live together, our schedules are so different.
  11. Run a marathon. I ran track & field in high school, but I was a sprinter. Long distances scare the heck out of me. This will definitely means a lot to me if I could do this.
  12. Visit all of my family. This is the most important. My aunt (on my dad’s side) is still very sad about my dad passing. I haven’t seen her since his funeral. I need to visit her. I also haven’t seen my grandpa since I was around 5 years old (he was too sick on my dad’s funeral because of a stroke and other medical problems). I haven’t talked to him in awhile either. I would love to reconnect with everyone on my dad’s side. It’ll be hard, but well worth it.

Even though I say all of this, this will most likely be a long process. When I had that month off before I started graduate school, I honestly don’t think I did anything productive outside of work. I would come home and sleep.

What would you do if you had more time?

I feel like my list is so similar to yours! I also work full time and am doing a post-grad degree and it is really and truly draining. Most of my free time goes to the gym or the blog and I can't wait until the day when I can sleep in until 10:00 and not feel guilty about it!Unfortunately I've got a year and a half left – the end is in sight for you! :)xxxJenna

I love your list, it sounds like you will really enjoy having some time back to yourself! That's how I felt when I quit my 2nd job and I haven't stopped since. On the exercise classes – I am SO lazy. The best thing about yoga though is everyone is a beginner at some point. I took a class specifically tailored towards beginners at my university before graduating so I felt less silly when I went to a studio.Personally, I think asking where to find the bathroom is the most important thing. I can ask it in 3 languages aside from English 🙂

I walked at graduation for my undergrad but not for my masters. I got my masters (May 2011) 1 year after my bachelors (May 2010). Also, my wife (fiance at the time) had her undergrad graduation that day. I don't really regret it, I have the diploma to look at if I get all nostalgic.

My life totally changed when I finished graduate school. like you, I went to school while working full time. I found all sorts of hobbies and try lots of new things. I was able to run a marathon the next year! And reading! I'm excited for you.Though now, I'm considering starting up a part time MBA (while keeping my job). It is a lot of work, but… I think I want to do it.Also, I did the opposite. I missed my undergrad ceremony (was on study abroad), so I did walk for my master's. But I don't think it is a big deal.

You should try Bikram yoga. Hardest/most amazing work out ever. I have never felt healthier in my life than when I was doing it daily.

I don't know how you have survived full time for so long and so little sleep. I'm weak. I simply can't do it. I just finished up two easy classes and I feel like I've been released from jail. I can't read either when I'm in school. Well, my to do's with more time is work on writing my book, learn spanish and read some books. School just finished last week so I'm giving myself some time to breathe then i better hop to it.

Damn that is not enough sleep at all!!! I don't know how you are doing it!! If I had more time I might try to learn to cook more elaborate meals. I'd also find more time to play beach volleyball. Also write more. Good luck with you goals!

I'd go to the gym more often. I feel more energized and motivated when I got to the gym, but just can't fit into my schedule more than once or twice a week (if I'm lucky).More sleep is also up there 🙂

There is always an endless list of things to do. Best way is to take up one thing and make it your habit. I guess preparing for marathon while running with your dog would be a nice thing to begin with.

If I had more time, I would make breakfast for us every morning before work. I would walk/run for 30 minutes every night, either outside or on the treadmill at the gym. I would spend more time with our nieces and nephews. I would take a nap every day of the weekend. Zzzzzzzz….

Love your list! I cannot wait until graduation with my Master's. I mean I still have 3 classes left to the MBA. But 8 hours compared to 55 hours I have completed is nothing. If i had more time I would spend more time with friends, visit my family often (make them happy in the process), read more books, workout more, eat healthier (cook more), travel more, and so much more. Have fun i your vacation!!!

I didn't walk iwth my undergrad and I dont regret it at all. My undergrad was a short, fast pace program so I felt like I JUST walked at a graduation ceremony. YIKES!!! Your sleep schedule scares me! I go to bed around 10-11 and get up at 6. I still fight myself out of bed 5 days a week. I've never done Yoga either!! But, I use to dance so I have been in plenty of dance classes or zumba classes. Zumba is really fun, but pretty fast pace. My mom and aunt do Zumba twice a week. They love it!! So yeah, its fast and may take a couple classes to get the hang of it but if they can do it you can do it!! I don't read books either. hahaha I wish I did. I start daydreaming and forget what I just read,p.s. I tagged you in a post I did today. When you get a chance you should come check it out!! http://kt-thelittlethingsinlife.blogspot.com/

I think you should walk. You've spent how much time, effort, and no sleep…Your sleep schedule sounds like mine. I'm perfectly fine running off about 4 hours during the week. But you bet your ass I'll make up for it on the weekends.I LOVE your list of things you want to try and do. I definitely recommend trying kick boxing…and learning another language!

I love sleep, too. I force myself to turn off the lights around 1 AM, maybe 1:30 or it would be later if I didn't try. Then I get up at 6:45. I've had times when I started seeing things from not sleeping enough. (when I slept even less than that.) Not good!

Those sound like some really cool stuff to do. I've done Yoga a few times and it's pretty cool (noticed a comment about Bikram Yoga too. Did that for a month on e $30 for 30 days thing. It was pretty awesome). Why not list them in order of ease and start knocking out the easy ones? #4 and some of #12 might be pretty great to start doing. Also yoga is pretty easy to find, right? Some of the "read more" or "travel more" ones are a bit tough to measure though. Maybe a book a quarter to start? Travel out of the state or country once a year, maybe?
