Have you ever thought about giving up your TV?

A TV is something that is “needed” to most people. I am one of those people. I don’t know what I’d do without a TV and being able to watch my shows instantly.

I know a lot of you would say that I could just watch my shows on my laptop for free and/or extremely cheap, but to tell you the truth, I honestly hate watching stuff on my laptop. I just don’t get the same joy out of it.  I’m not sure why, but I just don’t. I’d rather watch my shows on my tv. Is anyone else like this?

Then as I was attempting to Black Friday shop (which was pretty much a failure, more on that later), I noticed so many people with a ton of TVs in their carts. Some lady had 9 TVs. I realize that, yes, some of these people are just buying these in order to resell them and make a profit, but really NINE? 9 TVs? Is that really needed?

And then I came across The Everyday Minimalist and saw her post on why she doesn’t have a tv. Her reasons consist of laziness, not wanting to move it every time she moves, the costs, and so on.

Do you own a TV? Have you ever thought about not owning one?

I have and don't have one. There's one in the room I am renting, which was provided by my landlord. Is one of those old, boxy, smaller-than-your-computer-screen tvs. I have used it about 20 times tops this past year. It is a nice dust collector. I don't have (or want) a TV because it just doesn't interest me. I don't watch shows online either. TV and TV shows bore me (and I despise commercials!). If I'm in a movie mood (which is rare), I'll get it from my computer. I guess it really depends from person to person. Though I'll confess, once I do move and get my own place, I'll probably have at least one decent TV, just for when people come over. TV is very deeply ingrained into other people, so just because I can/prefer to do without it doesn't mean I think everyone else should.

We have 3 tv's, one downstairs in the playroom for the kids, one in the living room, & one in the bedroom that my hubby watches in the morning before he goes to sleep. (he works midnights). Now, IF it were up to me, I woudn't have cable, (which would save us a small fortune) but would keep one tv for watching DVD movies on from the library…

In my dream house, the one that I day dream of often, I imagine a TV in just about every room. We love our TV. I can admit it. I might be able to do without cable, but never a TV.

Im with you, I like having a TV even if it is just for background noise. When we had our house we had seven TVs(!) which amounted to one in each room except for the bathrooms (I had a friend who had TVs in each of her bathrooms as well but we didn't go that far). Now we have two TVs in storage, one for our bedroom and one for the living room. We are still debating if we will spring for cable when we move in a couple of weeks or if we will just buy digital antennas for them and catch the 20 or so stations that we can get over the air. These days I would much rather stay home and watch TV than go to a movie and like you, I don't enjoy watching TV on my computer.

So weird! I just wrote about my cable bundle! We must be on the same wavelength! I do have a TV. I'm embarrassed to admit that I, too, need it to survive. But there's a lot of other options aside from watching on your laptop. I wrote about that, too. Not trying to pimp my blog in your comments, here. It's just too ironic!I hope they're donating some of their 9 tv profit to charity or something. That's the thing I don't like about this season…some people turn the season of giving into a season of greed.

I have one in my living room, but I don't have cable so when I do turn it on, it means movie time which is usually spent with others–so no mindless hours wasted here!!!On an unrelated note, I noticed your blogroll link to my site is to my (now defunct) RSS feed. Do you mind changing it to http://www.thehappyhomeowner.net/ when you have a chance? Sorry to be a pain–just trying to re-establish my readership now that the official domain migration is complete. Thanks!!! 🙂

Tanner, I wish I were like you. I waste so many hours watching my favorite [email protected], thanks! That made my day.I have a lot of TVs in my house. We have one in the bedroom, living room, basement living room. And then we also have 3 TVs in the storage room in our basement. Obviously, we depend on them too much and need to do something better with our time.

I can't imagine not having my tv. Well I can, I tried. I didn't like it at all. It's too quiet in the house without it. I know I waste too much time with it but am not planning on giving it up.

I have two TVs for one person! Haha. I have a small one in my bedroom, just one of those TV/VCR combo things. It's super old and only about 13 inches, but it does the job. It was just a hand-me-down. I also have a flat screen in my living room, which I got last year. (Replaced another, slightly larger, boxy hand me down TV.)I like having a TV. I know it's kind of "in style" to boast about not having one, but I don't really see the point. If I didn't have a TV, I'd just end up watching my shows on my computer, and then what's the point of not having a TV, really? Just so I could tell people I don't have a TV, and then gab about the latest episode of Grey's Anatomy? It actually kind of irks me when people brag about not owning a TV. So pretentious! Unless, of course, the person is like Tanner and actually doesn't watch TV.

I have a boxy older TV that I got second hand in 2007. It does the job to give me the entertainment when I need it. I currently have free cable by fluke so it's a bonus. I think I would always have a TV for movies and stuff even if I don't get cable.

we have a TV. But we don't have it hooked up to channels. So we can't actually watch TV. It's for gaming. We buy games that are multiple player so that we can play with guests.

I would love to get rid of the TV and cable bill. I moved in with my fiance this summer, and he won't go for that, but with my previous roommate we got so fed up with the cable company that we just got rid of it. We had internet through the apartment complex, so we just watched our TV online. It was kind of weird, though, because we had four TVs in our apartment. (One was an old console television that still worked, but acted primarily as a TV stand for a more modern but still old and clunky CRT television.) I have no problem watching TV online, and will often pull something up on hulu that I know we have recorded just so I don't have to deal with trying to navigate the DVR.

I love movies, but I decided never to spend money on tv channels (I'm not interested on what they offer anyway) but on dvds. My bf the techno-guy bought us a new flat screen and also the PS3, so now we watch blurays too. That way you can really enjoy cinema! Technology is a great thing if it really works for you. Lily

My husband and I own a TV, but we really do not watch it much. There are not any shows we watch on a regular basis, we are too busy for that. We really only watch a couple times a week briefly and friday or Saturday is movie night.

We have a TV, but only one. I'm big on just having one TV in a living space, and definitely none in the bedroom. I'd say I tread a middle ground on the TV thing. I have shows I like to watch, and I'd rather watch them on the TV than on the laptop. The way I see it, as long as we're doing well financially, I don't mind paying for one of the lower-level packages. But if we do find that money is tight at some point in the future, the satellite will be the first thing to go!

My boyfriend & I just moved into a new place and we decided to nix the TV in the bedroom! So far so good, I miss being lazy and watching TV in the bed but it has created more time for him & I to just talk and catch up!
