Here’s a great graphic displaying what the average person on Mint spends on their animals.

We spend around (this is yearly and for both of our dogs):

  1. $500 on food
  2. $400 on vet bills (shots, yearly check-up, plus medical bills for my smaller dog)
  3. $200 on toys and treats

We don’t have pet insurance.  Any thoughts on pet insurance?

How much do you spend?

I'm not sure how it all breaks down by category, but we probably spend about $1500-1800/year on our pets. We have a dog, two rats, and two degus. No pet insurance though. I'd rather take the money that would otherwise go toward pet insurance and save it up so we could cover any medical expenses with cash.

What a great pic!Let's see, we spend about $45.00 a month on food, and about $150.00 on yearly visits and shots. Dog treats and toys…hmmmm about $50.00. So, not so bad.

We are planning on getting a dog soon after we get our house in October. I plan on looking into pet insurance as it is offered as an add-on to our health insurance. I have not looked at the details, but I'm guessing it will be worth it since I'd rather make small payments over time than the big lump sum bills.

We have one rescue cat named Midnight. Currently her costs are the following:

    Food-60
    Vet-120
    Toys/Treats-30

This is for an entire year 🙂
